flag3d.gif Profile of Bernd Obergassel flag3d.gif

I was born in Dortmund, Germany in 1962, as the second of two children, raised in Benninghofen and have lived since 1988 in Hörde (two suburbs of Dortmund which is 478km (297miles) apart from Leipzig).

Education and biography:
Since my childhood I have had a preference for technical things. So I decided to do an apprenticeship as constructor for electrical machinery when I left school. After graduating successfully I pursued studies in the same field. In 1987 I have got my degree in Electrical Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.), in 2005 I finished a post-graduate course as a Business Administration Engineer (Dipl.-Wirt.Ing. (FH)), both at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Dortmund.
I know, this is not the normal way to become an artist ;-) - but, engineers are in a similar way creative like artists.

About the Artist:
After visiting an exhibition at the „Sternenwarte Bochum” I decided to try creating paintings by myself. So I started my career as a self-educated painter in 1993. At the beginning I read a few books about art. This helped me to find direction - to figure out what I like and what I don't. The figures I created are technically influenced and very emotional. They depict a lyrical interplay of biomorphic forms. All paintings are oil on canvas. I named the figures „The ZONs”. They meet the abstract, surrealistic genre.

Throughout the years, I have been engaging in a variety of artistic activities like drawing, painting different series of oil paintings (series „RM”, „Rainbow”, „Musicians” etc.), making lots of objects (with electronic parts) and also sculptures and installations. The sculptures are made out of plaster and painted with acrylic paint. In the year 2008 I have started making music tracks of the genres Techno / Trance / House. I am member of the „Hörder Kulturquartier” since 2007.
